Walking Breaks
Hazel Bank is ideally situated if you wish to enjoy the sights and walks of the Lake District, as it is close to Rosthwaite, right at the heart of the Borrowdale valley.
Borrowdale is one the Lake District's quietest and most beautiful areas, providing many different sights.
Due to Rosthwaite being on the Cumbria Way and the Allerdale Ramble, whether you want a gentle stroll along the river or a more strenuous ridge walk, there is something for everyone straight from the hotel door.
Many of these walks take in the Derwentwater shore line which is the perfect place to have a packed lunch (which Hazel Bank can supply).
Below is a list of walks that you can take in the area of the hotel. Click on one of the links below to display more information about the walk and an image of the area, which will display on the right with a link to a map (where available).
Watendlath and Dock Tarn
An easy, half day, circular walk with fabulous views of the area in any weather.
Seatoller to Grange circuit
An easy, half day, circular walk with fabulous views of the area in any weather.
Langstrath Valley
A picturesque 7½ mile circular walk right from the front door.
Stonethwaite Valley
Another picturesque circular walk right from the front door, about 7 miles.
Brund Fell and Kings How circuit
A slightly more strenuous walk from Rosthwaite, the Brund Fell (1,363ft) and Kings How (1,250ft) circuit is well worth the initial steep climb, with spectacular views along the way. (We once looked down on one of the RAF fighter planes which use the valleys in the area for training!)
Derwentwater
A 2½ mile walk along the river takes you to Grange where you can walk around Derwentwater and its scenic wooded slopes.
These walks take in the Derwentwater shore line which is the perfect place to have a packed lunch (which Hazel Bank can supply).
Cat Bells
A 2½ mile walk along the river or a 5 minute drive takes you to Grange where you can climb Cat Bells (1,300ft).
Alternatively you can walk the lower terrace of Cat Bells (part of the Allerdale Ramble and the Cumbria Way), both offer great views over Derwentwater and the surrounding fells.
All Day Rambles and Climbs
Hazelbank's location allows you to do a single walk, or combine two walks, to create an all day ramble, for example
Seatoller to Grange returning via Lodore Falls, Watendlath and Dock Tarn.
For those who want something much more strenuous there are the challenges of Scafell Pike (3,000ft) and Great Gable (1,400ft) not too far away.
